04 Oct Tips For Painting A Master Bedroom Suite
Are you thinking of repainting your master bedroom suite? Given that you spend roughly 1/3 of your day in your bedroom, carefully selecting those paint colors is a good idea.
Here are some things to consider before you call a painter or pick up a paintbrush:
Private Sanctuary:
Over the last several decades, master bedrooms have morphed into larger multi-purpose spaces. The typical master bedroom has an adjoining bathroom. The master suite has become a sanctuary from our busy daily life. Select a master bedroom color which relaxes you and envelopes you rather than stops you in your tracks because of its boldness or brightness.
Tip: From the furniture selection and accessories to the wall color, create a space that gives you a sense of calm. Stay away from high energy colors such as bright reds and oranges.
Reflect Your Personality:
Your bedroom should reflect your personality or your decorating style (or both), but there are a few things to keep in mind. Rather than painting the entire bedroom a high energy color, select a highlight wall to bring in the color you crave. You can also introduce bold color through soft furnishings such as throw pillows, curtains, and even furniture.
Tip: We often paint the wall behind the headboard a bold or deep highlight color and paint the remaining walls a lighter, coordinating color. If you do crave bright color in your home, paint the powder room or guest bathroom in a color you love.
Layer Colors:
Add interest and depth to your overall decor in the master suite by layering colors. As we said above, you can paint walls a neutral color (light or dark) and then layer in colors through other means such as artwork, bed linens, curtains, armchairs or a loveseat. Those spots of color add layers of color as well as texture and interest to the bedroom’s style. When you tire of the colors, or you wish to change them out by season, it’s relatively inexpensive and easier.
Tip: Make sure colors coordinate. For more contrast, pick colors that are opposite on the color wheel. For a more calming effect, choose colors alongside each other on the color wheel.
