What type of washing do you need for your home?

Did you know there’s a difference in power and pressure washing? There’s also soft washing as well if we want to include all kinds of exterior washes available. Which one you do or need depends on several factors. Let’s define each type of wash first.
Pressure Washing vs. Power Washing:
We often hear the terms power washing and pressure washing being used interchangeably. Both are very similar because both methods use water at high pressure to clean a surface.  Typically, the force of this water is sufficient to remove any surface contaminants like mold, dirt, mildew, stains, and even loose paint. The difference is that power washing uses high-pressure steam to clean a surface.
Typical power washing areas/surfaces:
  • Driveways
  • Fences
  • Decks
  • Pathways
  • Patios
  • Wood decks
  • Certain exterior walls
Soft Washing:
Depending on the surface and its condition, it’s sometimes better to soft wash a surface rather than do a pressure wash, which can lift paint or even damage certain surfaces.  Soft washing uses low pressure with a high volume of coverage. Soft wash can be a great way to address certain fungal issues.
Typical surfaces for soft washing include:
  • stucco
  • masonry surfaces
  • pavers
  • concrete
  • vinyl and wood siding
When we come out to do an estimate of your Northern Virginia project, we will discuss with you the best options for your home’s surfaces. Keep in mind, if there is any loose paint present, cleaning may remove it. Also, your home’s year of construction will be of concern.  Homes built before 1978 may contain lead paint. Removing or disturbing it has certain serious health and safety requirements – both for the homeowner and our crews.  We are always cautious with any washing we do to protect your property best.
