The cabinet refinishing process differs significantly from standard wall or trim painting due to the increased exposure to moisture, humidity, and frequent use. To ensure a durable finish, cabinets require meticulous surface preparation, including thorough cleaning and detailed sanding prior to paint application. For a smooth, factory-like appearance, professional spray application is preferred over traditional brushing or rolling techniques.

Factors That Affect Cabinet Painting Costs:

Kitchen Size

More cabinets means more time and material needed to paint the cabinets.

Condition of the Cabinets

As with any paint job, prep work is vital to the longevity of the paint. Cabinets that are in good condition will need less time for preparation. But if there is wear and tear, peeling paint, or grease build up, more time will be needed to get the job done.

Cabinet Type

Cabinets come in all types including oak, maple, birch, pine, MDF, and more. Smooth surfaces require less labor and materials whereas grainy surfaces (i.e. oak) will need more sanding and additional priming in some cases.

Painting On-Site vs. Off-Site

If there is space available on your property, that will decrease labor time because we will not have to go back and forth between the job site and our office. This may also reduce the project timeline and get your kitchen back in order faster.

Paint Method

There are two approaches that can be used to paint cabinets:

  • Spray — Requires more prep time to protect surrounding areas but provides a smooth, factory-like finish.
  • Brush/Roll — More budget-friendly but does not achieve the same smooth finish as spraying.
