Why A Paint Job Looks Streaky (and How We Make Sure It Doesn’t)

There’s nothing worse than stepping back to admire a freshly painted wall… only to realize there are brush lines. Streaky paint jobs are frustrating, especially when you’ve invested time, money, or your weekend painting.

So what’s going on? Can a professional painting contractor avoid this problem?

Streaks occur when the paint is not applied evenly, either because the wrong tools were used (or the correct tools were used incorrectly), the paint dried too quickly, or the wall was not adequately prepared. A professional painter would know how to avoid these problems. Yes, streaky paint jobs can be avoided by experienced painters.

At our company, we obsess over the details so you don’t have to. Here’s how we keep streaks out of the picture:

  1. We prep like pros should. We clean walls, patch holes, and sand surfaces to ensure a smooth surface. We never skip the proper preparation before we start painting!
  2. We use high-quality paint and tools. Cheap rollers and bargain-bin brushes are streak factories. They can be the creators of a bad paint job, so we invest in high-quality tools and paint so your finish looks flawless.
  3. We apply multiple, even coats. There are no one-coat miracles. We apply paint in consistent strokes and let each layer dry properly before the next goes on. Paint must be thoroughly dry before applying another coat, or you’ll end up with a sloppy application that will be evident. This is where a lot of homeowners go wrong. They think the paint is “dry enough” to add the next coat, or they don’t even bother with a second coat.
  4. We consider the environment. Paint doesn’t like extreme temps or humidity. As much as we can, we maintain or regulate a room’s environmental conditions so the paint can dry evenly – or we wait until the conditions are right before starting a job. We will not compromise the quality of a job by rushing to paint.

What is the result of these four points? A smooth, streak-free finish that makes your space feel fresh, polished, and professionally done—because it is.
