Best Colors for Home Offices

Color can affect your mood. So, it’s no surprise that paint color can also affect you. You’ll want to keep that when selecting a paint color for your home office. The right colors can help boost productivity!

Color = Mood

If you want to create a relaxing office space, stick to cooler colors, such as the ones you might find in a spa. Cooler shades of blue and green create soothing spaces.

If you want to create an energetic space to fuel your creativity, go for warmer paint colors like shades of orange, red, or yellow.

For a cozy space, whether a large or small office, use dark colors – think dark grey, blue, chocolate brown, or even back.

Brown: Brown is back in style! If you want to create an office that evokes strength and power, go for a brown. It’s a calming color that can act as a neutral color when you add some accent colors. For a lighter brown, try Sherwin William’s Cocoa Whip 9084. If you prefer a darker color, try Benjamin Moore’s Tarpley Brown CW-170.

Blue: Whatever shade of blue you select, light or dark, blue is a soothing color. It can be used as a neutral, much like black, a color that grounds a space. It’s ideal for home offices because it’s considered a calming color. For a calming shade, try Vermont Slate 1673 by Benjamin Moore. For dark blue, one of our favorites remains the Hale Navy HC-154, also by B.M.

Green: Green, like blue, can create a soothing environment. Think back to nature. It’s not just a soft color. It can also boost creativity. Consider October Mist 1495, the Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2022, or Vert de Terre, a delicate green by Farrow & Ball.

Pink: Pink has been everywhere in the last few years, and not just in the bedroom. If you want a soothing color that is gentle and creates an elegant room, try one of these two Benjamin Moore paints: Touch of Pink 2008-70 or Tissue Pink 1163.

White: If you want to create an office that is more on the “clean aesthetic” side with little color distraction on the walls, consider a shade of white – a million shades exist. It’s a soothing neutral that can work in many places. Unless you want a bright contemporary space, consider a gentler off-white like Benjamin Moore’s Dove Wing OC-18.

Black: Black is the ultimate in luxury colors. It is sophisticated and soothing; contrary to what you might think, you can paint an entire room in it. If you want an elegant office that seems to wrap its arms around you for a cozy feel, go with black. It’s lovely on walls that have paneling or trim molding. Try Sherwin Williams’ Black Magic 6991.
